5 Skincare Tips to Prevent & Soothe Eczema Outbreaks

The Best Moisturizer for Eczema

Suffering from eczema can be agony. I know first-hand because I’ve been dealing with eczema, allergies and asthma since childhood. The 3 conditions seem to go together. As a child, I had eczema really bad inside of my elbows and behind my knees and on my hands. My skin would get so inflamed; it would constantly be dry, red, itchy and irritated. I would scratch so much I would break the skin, making it vulnerable to contagious infections such as impetigo. The doctor would say that there is no cure, only treatments. Genetics are a factor, along with chemicals and allergens. I was told I have an abnormal skin barrier that doesn't hold on to enough water, so it's dry. Irritants, microbes, and toxins easily enter the body, causing inflammation. When I became a makeup artist, the eczema continued; especially on my hands. The brush cleaner and all the chemicals were unbearable. After trying everything, these 5 treatments helped me the most, so I would like to share them with you.

My four day before, during & after using The Eczema Ointment:

1. Daily moisturizing: I created The Eczema Ointment by Glycelene because I knew I couldn't use a steroid for more than a week. I wanted something safe that I could use daily to help rebuild and repair my skin while quickly soothing the irritation. Glycelene is the best moisturizer for Eczema and other skin issues such as heat rash and chaffing. 2. Daily bathing: It's important to take good care of your skin and keep it clean. Take warm (not hot) baths on a regular basis. Create a soothing moisturizing bath for relief by grinding oats to a very fine powder and adding them to the bath or add the whole oats to a muslin bag, cheesecloth or organza bag and hang it under the tap, allowing the water to run over it.  Use caution as it can cause the tub to be slippery. Some other bathing tips:
  • Avoid bubble bath
  • Use mild soap or a fragrance free, sulfate free cleanser
  • Avoid lanolin based soaps and lotions
  • Pat skin dry and moisturize entire body after bathing

3. Clothing:

  • Wear 100% cotton when possible
  • Avoid wearing scratchy fibers and wool
  • Change clothes immediately after you workout
When washing, double rinse clothes, towels and bedding to prevent chemicals from laundry products irritating the skin and use fragrance free detergents.

4. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated:

  • Consider investing in a humidifier
  • Avoid rapid changes in temperature
  • Avoid sunburn and overly windy conditions
  • Avoid drinks or cocktails that cause a rash or dehydration
It’s so important to stay hydrated inside and out if you suffer for eczema.  It will make a huge difference.

5. Find out if you're allergic to certain pets:

I love all animals, but sadly I'm allergic to so many of them.  I can't be in the same room with a cat and most dogs.  My eczema and allergies will flare up so badly, I feel like my skin is on fire.  As soon as I moved into a house with hard wood floor and no animals, my eczema subsided.  It's made me so sad because I love animals so much, but I have to be careful. If I pet a dog, I have to wash my hands immediately and apply my Glycelene. Learn what triggers your eczema; being consistent is the key to treating this skin condition. I hope this helps as it’s helped me in this lifelong battle. Glycelene should be used in conjunction with the advice of a dermatologist
